Sarah Harrop: Science Writer and Editor

I’m a freelance science writer and editor with over two decades’ experience of communicating about science.

I work with universities, science funders, the NHS and biotechs to tell stories which bring complex science to life.

I’m most happy when I’m interviewing scientists across the world about their research to create engaging feature articles or impact case studies. But I also love reporting on new findings and crafting lively social media content. And I’m skilled at editing scientific text to make it clear, engaging and free of jargon, so that anyone can understand it.

Before my freelance days, I worked in the university sector and as a science writer for the UKRI Medical Research Council (MRC). I’ve also worked in industry, within the drug information team at Thomson Reuters, and I’ve dabbled in travel writing, winning the Guardian Young Travel of the Year award.

I have a BSc in biological sciences from Sheffield University and a journalism qualification from University of London Birkbeck College.
